Shipping resumes at Gladstone

03/Feb/2010

Brisbane (Energy Publishing) Shipping movements at the Port of Gladstone have resumed after being forced to close at about 1am (EST), 1 February, by severe winds caused from ex-tropical cyclone Olga.

The port has had it’s coal supply cut-off due to closures on the Blackwater and Moura rail lines and will rely on about 2Mt of current stocks to service appropriate ships, a port spokesperson said.

A derailment of a Pacific National train at about 1.40am, 2 February, between Wycarbah and Warren in the Blackwater system had badly damaged the track, and it is unlikely to reopen before the weekend, a QR spokesperson said.

While a landslide on the Moura rail line is expected to keep the line closed until 5 February.
