Baosteel to boost domestic coking coal output

03/Mar/2010

Beijing (Energy Publishing) - Chinese steel giant, Baosteel, has unveiled plans to add 7Mt a year to its coking coal production from mines in northwestern Xinjiang province.

It says it has approved a US$732M investment by its Xinjiang Coking Coal Group subsidiary to establish the largest coking coal base in central Asia by lifting mining output by 7Mtpa over three years.

Latest available data, from 2008, indicates that the upgrade will at least double Xinjiang Coking Coal Group's annual coking coal production.
