Green light for two NSW power stations

04/Mar/2010

Brisbane (Energy Publishing) - The concept plans for two 2,000MW baseload power stations in New South Wales have been granted approval by the NSW minister for planning.

State-owned electricity wholesaler, Macquarie Generation, said the approval for its Bayswater B power station near Muswellbrook is for “dual fuel”, which will allow potential developers to chose whether it will be coal or gas-fired.

Delta Energy, another electricity wholesaler, has reportedly gained concept approval for expansion to its Mt Piper power station near Lithgow, which is also to be “dual fuel”.

Macquarie Generation said the approval also stipulates inclusion of carbon capture and storage provisions in the final power station design.
