Indian coal demand to reach 2Bt by 2030

10/Mar/2010

India (Energy Publishing) - Chief of Indian rail giant RITES, VK Agarwall, told the Coaltrans conference in India today that the country’s coal supply-demand gap is expected to reach 55-60Mt by 2013.

Imported coal will play an increasingly important role for India as the country continues to grow, he said.

Projected GDP growth of around 9% implies India’s total coal requirement will be more than 2Bt by 2030.

India’s current indigenous coal production sits at around only 500Mt.
